    Edwardian remodelling

    Surrey

This tired-looking detached Edwardian property had been unsympathetically extended, bit by bit, over the years. Set in the middle of a large garden plot, the brief was to completely refurbish and remodel the house, inside and out, to suit a family with three children.

Internally the ground floor layout has been reworked to create a generous, light-filled hall to connect all the main rooms. The new flow places the family kitchen at the heart of things. We also added a large glass extension to create an adjoining breakfast/dining space looking out over the gardens, while a new study off the kitchen gives a family-friendly homework area. The existing garages have been transformed into a spacious new reception room and a granny annex (near but not too near) and the six bedrooms and bathrooms have been refurbished to a very high standard. Externally, the challenge was to blend the historical alterations into a cohesive look and we did this by rendering the façade and replacing the windows. To complete the project, a new double garage has been built next to the main house.
