    Victorian excavation

    Putney

This Victorian semi-detached property had been extended several times over the years in an unsympathetic fashion. The interior was badly laid out and very tired looking and we were asked to make more space for living and storage, remaster the room flow and adapt it all for a family of four, complete with a live-in nanny. The client also wanted to have a sun-filled spot to sit as she likes to read her book before going to work. To make things a little more complex, the property is in an Archaeological Priority Area which required the presence of an archaeologist to oversee some of the excavations on site.

The house was completely gutted, newly insulated and redesigned to suit the family’s needs. We also gained fresh internal space by building a basement extension and a ground floor rear extension. There is now a light and spacious guest bedroom/TV room with ensuite shower room in the basement; a contemporary living/dining/kitchen area opening up to the garden, as well as a separate study and withdrawing room for the parents on the ground floor. Upstairs we have created a new master suite with bedroom, dressing room and ensuite shower room, as well as redesigned children’s and nanny’s bedrooms and bathrooms. Custom-built storage has also been incorporated into every nook and cranny around the house.
